It was with sadness that all at the Club learnt
of the death, on 6 July 2016, of our former player Arthur Boyle. Arthur played
for the Club during the 1950s and 1960s. He was part of a ‘Golden Generation’ of
Ballymacnab footballers who made their mark after the great 1946 side. Throughout
his playing career, Arthur played on the half back line where he was the
regular No.7 throughout this era. Noted as a skilful and terrier half back it
was rare for his opponents to get the better of him. After his playing days he
remained a keen supporter of the Senior team and also neighbouring Club
Whitecross with whom his son Kieran played for and grandson Niall is a current
player. Arthur had a great love of football and followed Armagh throughout his
life both near and far, attending games right up to last year, before illness left him
housebound but he still enjoyed watching the games on TV. During the offertory at his funeral Mass
his nephew and Club Secretary Nelius Boyle carried the Ballymacnab No.7 jersey in Arthurs memory. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Kathleen, son Kieran,
brothers Pat Joe and Corney, sister Bridget McGeown and entire family circle. Go raibh suaimhneas sioraí ar a anam dílis. |
