BALLYMACNAB ROUND TOWERS GFC Newsletter – 20/02/2017



Indoor training continues every Saturday at St Patrick's Grammar School for Under 6, 8, 10, and 12.5 teams


Times for age groups:


Under 6&8 (P1-P4) 2-2:45pm (New recruits welcome!)

Under 10&12.5 (P5-1st year) 2:45-3:45pm


To help cover cost each age group to pay £2, £5 for family of 3 or more. £10 Membership/Registration fee can also be paid at these sessions.



The Functional Movement Screening (FMS) programme began last week with a good turnout. It continues every Monday at the Clubrooms. All players in 1st Year to Under 18 are to take part. Indoor training gear should be worn.



Tony Scullion from Ulster GAA will be hosting a Kicking For Scores Workshop in the Athletic Grounds on Wednesday 1 March @730pm. This is an interactive indoor coaching workshop. It is open to all coaches and will use drills, games and video clips to look at the skill of kicking for scores. At the end of the Session Coaches will have a selection of Drills and Games to improve Score-taking for Points and Goals. This Workshop is free of charge and registration can be done on the night



The Club are actively in search of a Club Referee to officiate at underage games. Full training shall be provided. Anyone interested please contact any Committee Member or underage coach.



Ballymacnab Round Towers GFC & St.Brenda’s Camogie Club held their Annual Dinner Dance and Presentation on Saturday night in Sheils Bar and Lounge with over 100 Gaels in attendance. Pride of place on the night were our Under 16 players who collected their medals for winning the Division II Shield. Club Youth Officer Michael Beagan presented the Shield and medals to:


Under 16 Shield Division II winners: Cillene Fearon, Ryan Donnelly, Shane Mackle, Paddy Hughes, Lee McParland, Eoin Crilly, Shea O’Toole, Pearse Hughes, Simon King


Individual winners on the night were:


  • EJ Martin Memorial Cup for U-16 Player of the Year: Pearse Hughes
  • Joe O’Hare Memorial Cup for U-18 Player of the Year: Niall McKee
  • U-21 Player of the Year: Ciaran Connolly
  • Caomh McCarthy Perpetual Cup for Reserve Player of the Year: Cormac McKee
  • James Gray Memorial Cup for Senior Player of the Year : Ryan Kennedy
  • Tommy O’Hare Memorial Cup for Club person of the Year: Mickey McGivern


Kizzy provided the musical entertainment as the Nab Gaels partied to the early hours. May we take this opportunity to thank the Staff of Sheils for their fabulous meal and congratulation to St.Brenda’s for another highly successful year for all their teams and individual award winners.

Can you play a part by selling at least 5 tickets every week? Sellers gain entry to a Monthly sellers draw, 1 entry for every 20 tickets sold during the month (draw takes place on the last Monday of each month). Please contact any member of the Committee to get involved. All sold tickets must be left in O’Tooles Bar before 9pm on the night (normally each Monday night) of each weekly draw



Membership for 2017 should be paid to the Club Registers, Brendan McKee or Seamus McArdle by 17 March 2017. Over 18 £20, Under 18 £10. A Registration Night shall be held in the Clubrooms on Thursday 23 February 730-830pm. All existing, lapsed and new members welcome. Paying your membership is an invaluable means of raising fund for the club. All players at all levels are reminded the importance of paying membership for insurance purposes and eligibility for the forthcoming competitive season, both training and games.



Under 14 - Training for next 4 weeks (until St Patrick's weekend) on Wednesday evenings 7.30-8.30 and Saturday mornings 11am-12.15pm.Any u14 parent wishing to buy a horse or sponsor a race for club fundraising Nite at the Races on Sat 25th Feb please contact Sally 07718920455.Horses £10 Race Sponsors £50.

Indoor Blitzes - St Brenda's will be taking part in the following blitzes at the Meadowbank in Magherafelt. Times TBC by the relevant coach.

                       Under 12 - 26th February. Feena will confirm details this week.

                       Under 8 and 10 - 19th March. Please note a change of date for under 10s due to All-Ireland club finals.

Fundraiser - St Brenda's Senior camogs are running a Night at the Races in O'Tooles on Saturday 25th February at 9pm sharp. Please contact any senior player or committee member if you can help by sponsoring a horse at £10 or a race at £50.

Registration - Registration is now due, please contact any committee member for registration forms.

Annual Dinner Dance - A great night was had by all at the annual St Brenda's and Round Towers GFC dinner dance in Basil Shiels. Congratulations to all the player of the year winners Michelle McArdle (Senior), Eimear Smyth (Under 18) Ellie McKee (under 16) and Mairead O'Toole received the under 16 most improved player. Sally Rafferty picked up a well deserved club person of the year for her outstanding contribution during 2016. St Brenda's chairperson Paula McGuigan congratulated all the girls who represented the club on the All - Ireland winning minor team (Roise Hughes, Tierna Maguire, Meabh McAleavey, Eimear Smyth) and the county Senior team (Michelle McArdle, Hannagh McGeown, Eimear Smyth) who also reached the final and presented them with a gift from the club. Senior team captain Danielle McKee presented last years manager Joe Baldwin with a token of appreciation for his 3 years involvement with the Seniors. Eimear Smyth was also recognised for achieving a colleges All Star award. Lastly, the club Minor league winners and under 16 championship teams were presented their winners medals led by captains Roise Hughes (minor) and Alanna McKee (under 16).



Ballymacnab Dramatic Society presents “The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley. A rip roaring three act comedy by Jimmy Keary. Final performance taking place in Ballymacnab Hall on 24thFebruary. Guaranteed a great night not to be missed! Curtain up at 8.00pm. Admission on the door.
