BALLYMACNAB ROUND TOWERS GFC Newsletter – 27/02/2017



The Senior League campaign will begin on Sunday 30 April with an away tie to Madden. Prior to the League there shall be a Divisional Cup competition which commences on Sunday 26 March with a Home tie against Tir na nOg



The Reserve (South) League will begin on Wednesday 19 April with a home tie v Derrynoose. The Reserves had a 1-09 to 0-11 win over St.Michael’s on Sunday in a challenge game. Finnén Maguire getting the goal.


The Under 14 Feile gets under way on Saturday when the Brian Boru side travel to Carrickcruppin in Round 1. The game has a 2pm throw in time.


Indoor training continues every Saturday at St Patrick's Grammar School for Under 6, 8, 10, and 12.5 teams

Times for age groups:


Under 6&8 (P1-P4) 2-2:45pm (New recruits welcome!)

Under 10&12.5 (P5-1st year) 2:45-3:45pm


To help cover cost each age group to pay £2, £5 for family of 3 or more. £10 Membership/Registration fee can also be paid at these sessions.


The Functional Movement Screening (FMS) programme continues every Monday at the Clubrooms. All players in 1st Year to Under 18 are to take part. Indoor training gear should be worn.


Tony Scullion from Ulster GAA will be hosting a Kicking For Scores Workshop in the Athletic Grounds on Wednesday 1 March @730pm. This is an interactive indoor coaching workshop. It is open to all coaches and will use drills, games and video clips to look at the skill of kicking for scores. At the end of the Session Coaches will have a selection of Drills and Games to improve Score-taking for Points and Goals. This Workshop is free of charge and registration can be done on the night

We thank all who currently sell and purchase lotto tickets every week. Your continued support is greatly appreciated and contributes substantially to financing ‘the Club’.

Can you play a part by selling at least 5 tickets every week? Sellers gain entry to a Monthly sellers draw, 1 entry for every 20 tickets sold during the month (draw takes place on the last Monday of each month). Please contact any member of the Committee to get involved. All sold tickets must be left in O’Tooles Bar before 9pm on the night (normally each Monday night) of each weekly draw


Membership for 2017 should be paid to the Club Registers, Brendan McKee or Seamus McArdle by 17 March 2017. Over 18 £20, Under 18 £10. A Registration Night shall be held in the Clubrooms on Friday 3 March 730-830pm. All existing, lapsed and new members welcome. Paying your membership is an invaluable means of raising fund for the club. All players at all levels are reminded the importance of paying membership for insurance purposes and eligibility for the forthcoming competitive season, both training and games.


A 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser in memory of John Grugan will be held on Saturday 11 March @ 11am in Parkanaur Forest Park, Dungannon,. All proceeds in aid of UCD Volunteers Overseas.


Well done to all involved in the Ballymacnab Dramatic Group on their hilarious performances of the play “The two loves of Gabriel Foley”.


The Committee and Members offer our deepest sympathy to our former player Eugene Crilly on the recent death of his mother Philomena.


Under 12 - Took part in an Ulster blitz in Meadowbank on Sunday past. A great days camogie was had by all, the girls played against teams from Ballinderry, Cushendall, Magherafelt and Killeavy, winning 3 of their 4 games. Well done girls.

Under 14 - There is NO training on Wednesday night due to Ash Wednesday. Training Saturday morning 11.30 -12.30pm please remember water and £1s. On Sunday the under 14s are having a trip to the All Ireland club finals in Croke Park, bus leaving the pitch at 9am please contact Sally for further details.

Senior - Training on Friday at 7pm sharp in the field.

Indoor Blitzes -  Under 8s and 10s have a blitz in Meadowbank in Magherafelt on 19th March, more details to follow. 

Fundraiser - St Brenda's Senior camogs held a very successful Night at the Races in O'Tooles on Saturday night past. Thanks to Gerard Gribben for running the races, O'Tooles for their hospitality, and a massive thanks to those who sponsored races, bought horses or attended on the night itself, a big well done to the Senior girls for organising such a successful fundraiser.

Registration - for 2017 is now due - payable to management teams at training before 15th March. Over 18s £50 and all under 18s is £25. Registration fee is made up of player insurance, fee to Croke Park, fee to Ulster Council and fee to Armagh County Board and the club covers the deficit.

Good luck - To St Patrick's High School in the All-Ireland camogie senior final on Saturday 04th March in Inniskeen against opponents Castleknock at 1pm, especially to the St Brenda's girls on the team Eimear Smyth, Molly McKee, Ellie McKee, Aine Smyth, Cara Crilly and Alanna McKee


Crochet Class in Ballymacnab Hall every Wednesday 7.30pm – 9.30pm. New members welcome.

Céilí dancing every Thursday in Ballymacnab Hall 8.30pm – 10pm. New beginners welcome.
