Clann Eireann 0-09 Ballymacnab 4-08

Our seniors took a step closer to securing Division I status with a compressive victory away to Clann Eireann on Sunday past. Despite missing a number of regulars this gave an opportunity to other squad members to make a claim on a starting position for the remaining games of the season.

Ballymacnab got off to an early start through a Rory Grugan point from their first attack. Gavin McParland doubled the lead with a point on the 4th minute before the home side opened their account from a free three minutes later. An excellent catch from Tony McKee set up Ballymacnab’s next score, when Ryan Kennedy burst through on a solo run, firing over the bar on the 11th minute. Clann Eireann responded with another pointed free on the 13th minute but three minutes later Ballymacnab had their first goal when Rory Grugan cut through the defence and his square pass to the waiting Gavin McParland saw him fire to the net. Michael Beagan got his name on the score sheet with a point on the 23rd minute when Sean Lynch’s interception set up the attack. Ballymacnab had dominated the half and continued their domination when Gavin McParland hit another goal and a Rory Grugan free on the stroke of half time to give the Round Towers a 2-05 to 0-03 lead.

Straight from the restart Ballymacnab went on the attack again and added another Michael Beagan point. On the 33rd minute, Rory Grugan once again played provider in setting up another goal, this time excellently finished by Paul Kennedy. As expected the home side hit their purple patch converting five points but Damian McGeown keep the ‘Nab tally rolling with a point after being set up by Tony McKee. Ballymacnab restored their control of the game and finished off with a Gavin McParland point and another Paul Kennedy goal to secure the two points.

A good win for the lads with particular fine displays from the inspirational Tony McKee in midfield, Sean Lynch and Ruairí Gribben in defence whilst in attack Paul Kennedy, Michael Beagan and Rory Grugan.
