It was with sadness to learn of the death of Joe Halpin on 8 November. Joe had the distinction of playing for the Club during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He played most of his football at Centre Half Forward, in an era when strength and power were at a premium. Joe was right at home with this style through his physical appearance but was also renowned for his skill. Throughout his playing days, Joe suffered many disappointing defeats in the Trodden Cup and Junior Championship but tasted success when he was a member of a Ballymacnab 7-a-side team who won a Senior Tournament in Scotstown in 1955. Joe is pictured in the below picture prior to the 1955 Trodden Cup Final (Front row, far right). In 1967 Joe was appointed Chairperson when the club was reformed and combined this role with playing into the early 1970s.
Away from football Joe had a keen love of music, Drumming in the Joe McKelvey Pipe Band and formed own dance band in the 1970s. Joe was also involved in the local Dramatic Group and acted in many production.
To his wife, Bridie, and entire family circle we offer our deepest sympathy.
