Joe O'Hare - RIP

posted 29 Sep 2015, 05:48 by ballymacnab armagh

It is with great regret and deepest sympathy that the Club learned of the death of our former player Joe O’Hare (RIP). Joe played for Ballymacnab in the late 1940s and 1950s. At a young age he was part of the 1946 squad who won the Old Mid Division Championship and were beaten in the Junior Championship of that year also. By the 1950s Joe had made the No.6 jersey his own and through his great fielding ability and athleticism saw him being called up to the Armagh squad and was introduced as a substitute for Armagh in the 1953 All-Ireland Final, making him Ballymacnabs must famous son and remains the only Ballymacnab player to play in a Senior All-Ireland Final. To mark this achievement Joe was an invited guest to our 2002 Senior Presenation when he could finally get his hands on the Sam Maguire Cup. Although residing in England for over fifty years, Joes heart was still firmly in Ballymacnab and kept a keen interest in results and goings on. Below is a photo of Joe in the Ballymacnab team of 1955 and also the Ballymacnab Youth Drama Group in 2011 when they visited Birmingham in 2011. We offer our deepest smpathy to the entire O’Hare family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
