Ballymacnab 3-11 Madden 4-10

Our Under 16s had home advantage when they took on the challenge of Championship finalists Madden, on Thursday evening. With two early points Madden went in front before points from Shaun Casey and Michael O'Hare levelled the game. Ballymacnab took the lead when Brendan Kennedy got forward from centre half back to score his first goal of the league campaign. Madden responded hitting 2-2 before Shaun Casey got another point. A Michael O'Hare goal followed by a Stephen McGuigan point left a point the margin. Nearing half time Stephen McGuigan burst through the Madden defence and fired a rocket of a shot to the net to score Ballymacnab's third goal and Shaun Casey followed up with another point just before half time to leave the lads 4 up.

A Stephen King point opened the scoring for the second half with a brilliant score from a very awkward angle. However this was short lived with Madden dominating the next phased, hitting 1-5 to go three in ahead. The lads soon gathered themselves and pointed frees from Stephen King and Shaun Casey left the sides level and it seemed a draw was on the cards but Madden hit the front once more with a point followed by a well taken goal. Stephen King raised a white flag from the dead ball to leave three between the sides once more. Ballymacnab now needed a goal to draw the game and were unlucky not to get it when Stephen McGuigan’s shot skimmed the crossbar to go over the bar. From the resulting kick out the referee blew the full time.

Although defeated, the lads can take great heart in their display, each and everyone who put in a huge effort. Michael Gribben was brilliant on the full back line assisted by Lee Hughes. While also notably good performances from Harry Rafferty, Oisin McGivern and Ryan McKenna when switched to the defence.

Team: Oisin O'Hare, Lee Hughes, Michael Gribben, Harry Rafferty, Brendan Kennedy, Dara McKinney, Josh McGeown, Stephen McGuigan, Shaun Casey, Michael O'Hare, Ryan McKenna, Stephen King, Oisin McGivern.
