UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
Madden 1-13 Ballymacnab 0-11
Our Under 18s bowed out of the Championship on Monday evening when they faced Madden at the Quarter Final stage. Madden had home advantage and took full advantage, going one up within the first minute. However, Jack Grugan levelled matters 3 minutes in with a point. Jack Grugan followed up with three further points against the same for Madden, to leave the sides level after 15 minutes. Ballymacnab played their best football of the game in the second quarter of the game when Conor Mackin kicked Ballymacnab into the lead on the 20th minute after linking well with Conor Murdoch and Jack Grugan. Pointed frees from Jack Grugan and Aodhan Toner increased the lead before a point for the home side on the stroke of half time left Ballymacnab 0-7 to 0-5 ahead.
Ballymacnab began the half brightly when Kieran Hughes carried the ball into the attack and his shot hit the upright to go over the bar. Madden responded with two points but a Conor Murdoch point kept the 'Nab in front. Madden now began to dominate in the midfield berth and on the score board, with 5 points in succession, followed by a goal on the 51st minute. Points from Aodhan Toner and Jack Grugan reduced the deficit as the 'Nab pushed hard for a goal and only the width of the post denied Shane McCone a desperately needed goal but by the final whistle Ballymacnab found themselves 5 point in arrears.
Despite the disappointment the lads can hopefully turn it around and keep alive their contention in the league as it reaches the final stages.
