Ballymacnab Round Towers GAC and St Brenda’s Camogie Club are participating in “RITH 2012”. RITH is a marathon run around the island of Ireland in support of the Irish Language.  Rith 2012 is starting on the 8th March and running from Gaoth Dobhair (Gweedore), to Inis Mór in Galway. The run will last for ten days, with tens of thousands of people taking part in every corner of the country.

Fortunately for us we will only run one kilometre!

The run passes through the City of Armagh on Saturday afternoon 10th March. Each club buys their own kilometre. The Ballymacnab kilometre begins at Gribben Motors and time to be confirmed. A specially designed baton is passed to a different club at the end of each kilometre.

It is hoped each team from the two clubs from our youngest to our more mature members will participate along with club coaches, officials and any parent, toddler and parishioner who would like to join in for the fun!

The clubs are using the run as a means of fundraising. We are very aware that the majority of our families have joint football and camogie members. In this case we would ask these families to kindly gather the sponsorship and split it equally between the two clubs. All sponsor sheets should be returned at the first training session after the run has taken place.

A Family Fun Day organised by Cairde Teo, a local Irish Language Support Group will take place on the Mall that afternoon and the event is expected to receive significant media coverage. This really is a unique opportunity for us as a community to show our support for our native language and we would like as many runners, walkers and buggies as is physically possible adorning our club colours. We thank you for your continued support and co-operation.
