Ballymacnab 3-10 Cullaville 3-06
Sunday saw the recommencement of the Senior League and Ballymacnab had home advantage in their tie against Cullaville. The visitors got off to the best start with a pointed free but three consecutive points by Rory Grugan put Ballymacnab into the driving seat. Sean McArdle got forward from midfield to get his first before Cullaville scored from a dead ball. Midway through the first half, came the first goal of the game with Ruairí Gribben providing the pass for Gavin McParland who rattled the back of the net. Another Rory Grugan point put Ballymacnab six ahead. As Cullaville tried to make a response they were denied a certain goal only for an excellent save from keeper Sean Hughes at the expense of a 45 meter kick that was converted leaving Ballymacnab ahead 1-05 to 0-03 at the interval.
Ballymacnab came out for the second half with all guns blazing with Gavin McParland finding the net once more. Rory Grugan raised another white flag before a third Gavin McParland goal was followed by a brace of points from Sean McArdle. Cullaville responded with their first goal from a converted penalty and added a point but that score was cancelled out from one by Brendan Toner. However, any idea that Ballymacnab were going to run away with the game were short lived as a revived Cullaville began to get back into the game scoring 1-2 in quick succession to leave 3 points between the sides. With the score now poised at 3-09 to 3-06, a goal for the visitors would have been a disaster for the ‘Nab but their comeback was stopped when a long range point from Rory Grugan secured the victory. A powerful performance though out from the boys with strong performances from Ryan Kennedy and Sean McArdle in particular.
