Ballymacnab 2-14 Clan na Gael 1-12

Our Under 21s progressed to the Quarter Final of the Championship with a hard fought but deserving victory over Clan na Gael in an entertaining encounter on Sunday.

Rory Grugan opened up the 'Nab account with a point from the first attack. Clans registered their first score with a point from a free on the 8th minute and followed up with a goal two minutes later. Two points from Jack Grugan were followed by two for the opposition leaving just a goal between the sides after 21 minutes. It was now that Ballymacnab began to dominate and points from Rory Grugan (2) and Brendan Toner levelled matters by the 27th minute. They continued to keep the pressure on and when Kieran Hughes' shot was saved by the 'keeper, Rory Grugan followed up the rebound to the net in a move he had initially started. Points from Gavin McParland and Rory Grugan (3) gave the 'Nab a seven point cushion at the interval.

Clans began the second half with a pointed free before two points by Rory Grugan increased the lead. Clans hit a purple patch mid way through the half. Aided by a point and four consecutive pointed frees left three between the sides after 45 minutes of play. With the opposition now with the momentum, our lads showed great resolve turning defence into attack and saw Kieran Hughes finish off with an excellent taken goal to send the lads into the next round to be played in two weeks time. A good solid performance led by Rory & Jack Grugan in attack while defensively Niall Cosgrove and Dominic McParland preformed best.

Team: Conor McGivern, Niall Cosgrove, Dominic McParland, Darren Lynch, John McManus, Brian McClelland, Gareth Watters, Paudi Crilly, Tony McKee, Cormac Gribben, Jack Grugan (0-4), Brendan Toner (0-1), Rory Grugan (1-08), Gavin McParland (Capt 0-1), Kieran Hughes (1-0).
