UNDER 18 LEAGUE DIVISION II
Mullaghbawn 1-04 Ballymacnab 2-04

Our minors had their first League game on Monday evening when they travelled to Mullaghbawn. Conditions were far from idol with heavy showers and breezy conditions disrupting a game but both teams adapted well and played out an entertaining game as best they could.

Early scores were exchanged between Aodhan Toner and the Mullaghbawn attack before a well taken goal from Kieran Hughes gave the 'Nab a 1-02 to 0-01 lead. This seemed to kick start the home side into gear and they immediately responded with a goal of their own and three unanswered points. Ballymacnab weathered the storm from the opposition and two expertly taken points from Jack Grugan left the sides level at the break.

Ballymacnab continued their good fortunes at the beginning of the second half with points from Kieran Hughes. Mid way through the second half the lads got their second goal after a long range free from Jack Grugan caught the keeper out and dropped into the net. Ballymacnab went on the attack once more and were awarded a penalty when Shaun Casey was brought down, after collecting an inch perfect pass from Aodhan Toner. Jack Grugan was denied a second goal, when his well struck shot hit the upright. Finnén Maguire followed up with a well taken point to ensure the victory on what was a very battling performance.

Good performances all round with John McManus and Shane McCone having steady games in defence and Kieran Hughes and Aodhan Toner in attack. A win that will no doubt give the boys a great lift and dedicated the victory to their colleague Packie Watters and the players, management team and all at the club wish Packie a speedy recovery.
