SENIOR LEAGUE

BALLYMACNAB 2-05 MAGHERY 0-07

The seniors collected two valuable league points on Friday night. In terrible conditions, the lads did not let the wind or the rain dampen their spirits and dug deep in the second half and were deserving of the victory.

Ballymacnab played with the breeze in the first half and took an early lead with points from Rory Grugan, Brian McCone and Brendan Toner before Maghery opened their account with a point on the 9th minute. Ryan Kennedy kicked a quality point on the 11th minute before the visitors got a second two minutes later. With the visitors packing the defence and dominating midfield scores were difficult to master and only a stroke of class on the 27th minute from Rory Grugan saw him side steep his markers and the 'keeper to kick a goal. Brian McCone converted a free shortly after to give his side a 1-05 to 0-02 lead at the interval.

With Maghery now assisted with the breeze they took full advantage, with points on the 31st and 38th minutes. As Ballymacnab began to get organised in defence they frustrated their opposition and restricted scoring opportunities with some tigerish defending. Maghery did add three points, their last on the 46th minute, to leave just one between the sides. With further excellent defending Ballymacnab kept Maghery scoreless for the rest of the game while on the break on the 53rd minute Gary McKee finished off a move with a goal.

An all round good team performance that was highlighted by superb workmanship, especially in the second half when they showed great discipline in tackling with special acknowledgement to the performance of Dominic McParland and Kevin Beagan
