Last weekend saw our seniors travel to Dromintee for the reverse league tie. Very little separated the side when they might earlier in the year and it proved to be the same this time but unfortunately from our perspective the result once again went against us and Dromintee used all their experience to get over the line.
Dromintee registered the first score of the game with an early point but two converted frees by Rory Grugan gave the Nab an early lead. Dromintee levelled matters on the 6th minute with a point. Over the next ten minutes the Nab began to dominate and their dominances was reflected on the scoreboard with points from Rory Grugan (4) and Ryan Kennedy. Three unanswered points for the home side reduced the deficit to the minimum. On the 25th minute Brian McClelland was introduced into the attack and collected a point with virtually his first touch. The Nab finished the half in a commanding position thanks to an excellent finished goal from the accurate Rory Grugan to leave his side leading 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.
At the restart Dromintee went straight on the attack and finished off a move with a goal, quickly followed by two points but to their credit the Nab composed themselves once again and two points by Gavin McParland by the 38th minute restored the lead to three. Dromintee were beginning to get a grasp at midfield and three consecutive points left the sides level on 42nd minute. Once again the Nab responded to the challenge and points from Richard Gribben, Rory Grugan and Gavin McParland edged the Nab back in front. In the final ten minute of the game Dromintee punished the Nab for their errors, hitting 1-3 to finish the game with four to spare.
This was another game that just slipped away from our lads when the probably deserved more. Dwayne McParland put in a steady performance in defence while Pauric Gribben worked hard over the hour. In attack Rory Grugan took his goal well and showed great accuracy from free kicks. Ryan Kennedy showed up well as did Gavin McParland in the second half.
