Goals decisive in Cross encounter (03/06/12)

Ballymacnab travelled to Crossmaglen on Sunday. Despite a promising first half from Ballymacnab, two goals in the space of six minutes for the home side early in the second half saw them take control and run out winners. Both teams fielded under strength with injuries in Ballymacnabs case being their main hindrance.

Cross opened the scoring with two points in quick succession before Jack Grugan opened the 'Nab account with a point on the 5th minute after James Gray collected a breaking ball and set up the attack. Jack Grugan converted a free three minutes later to level matters. Midfield proved to be a hotly contested area as the sides tried to stamp their authority, while the Ballymacnab defence were doing quiet well to quash out the Cross attack. The home side edged in front with a point in the 20th minute but straight from the kick out the 'Nab went on the attack and finished with an excellent point by Joe Gribben with the outside of his boot. Points from Ryan Harvey and James Gray (2), in between one from Cross, left Ballymacnab leading 6-4 at the interval.

Jack Grugan got his side off to a bright start with a pointed free from their first attack. However, Crossmaglen responded almost immediately with a goal. Two points quickly followed and when the defence failed to deal with a high ball, resulting in a second goal. From then Cross took control and ran out winners.

Hopefully this result will be put behind the lads and that the injuries are cleared up as the squad were given an added boost with the return of Philip McCone and Michael Beagan.
