AC SENIOR LEAGUE

ST.PATRICK’S 0-14 BALLYMACNAB 4-08

The Seniors were on the road again last weekend when they travelled to Cullyhanna to take on the locals in their third league tie of the season.

Aided by a slight breeze, Jack Grugan opened the scoring with a pointed free within the first minute. The home side hit back with two points before a long range effort from Brendan Toner levelled maters by the 11th minute. A good save from Conor McGivern at the expense of a point restored the lead for St.Patrick's. On the 15th minute came the first goal of the game when James Gray pounced on an error in the defence and fired the ball to the net. St.Patrick's responded with a point but along range effort from Rory Grugan cancelled that score. Ballymacnab hit a second goal on the 24th through Brendan Toner after some good initial play by Fearghal Nugent and Gavin McParland. With Ballymacnab now dominating, Gavin McParland kicked a brace of points and finished the half with a goal to give his side a 3-5 to 0-4 lead at the break. In the second half, as expected, St.Patrick's came out in a more determined fashion and chipped away at the 'Nab lead. However, some tireless defending kept Ballymacnab in front and after weathering the storm finished the final 10 minutes in a dominating fashion. Firstly through two well taken points under pressure from Jack Grugan and secondly the introduction of Pauric Gribben to midfield. A fourth goal from Pauric Gribben secured the victory just before another Brendan Toner point and a converted free for the opposition. Two vital points secured and the lads are back in action on Friday evening when they shall host Killeavy with a throw in time of 745pm. Another all round good team performance with worthy word of praise going to Chris Loughran,  Michael Beagan and Brendan Toner.
