A dramatic finish to an entertaining game saw Ballymacnab claim the Division II League title when with five minutes remaining they trailed by four but a goal and two points in that time scale saw our lads claim the prize and complete a league and championship double.

Conor Murdoch got the Nab of to a good start when his shot on goal, after only two minutes, produced an excellent save from the keeper, at the expense of a point. ‘Cruppen levelled the game with a pointed free on the 8th minute. A minute later they went on the attack again and finished with a goal. On the 12th minute a point for Carrickcruppen edged them further ahead. A pointed free from Aidan Toner was soon cancelled out with two further points for 'cruppen. Despite our lads best efforts they just couldn't finish their good play off with scores and on the 27th minute Carrickcruppen got the rub of the green when their attacker reacted quickest from a shot off the upright and finished with a second goal. The Nab responded well through points from Kieran Hughes and Jack Grugan to leave two goals between the sides at the interval.

Carrickcruppen added to their lead with a point on the 33rd minute before a point from substitute Brendan Toner on the 36th minute cancelled the score. The Nab now seemed to get into their stride and flow of the game and a 37th minute a point from an individual effort by Shane McCone, set up on a mini revival. Jack Grugan converted a point from a free on the 40th minute but two minutes later against the run of play Carrickcruppen found a third goal from a free kick. It looked like this score was going to be too much for the young lads to claw back but these lads have showed a never say die attitude throughout the year and a point fired over by Kieran Hughes just ignited something special for the final ten minutes. With Brendan Toner now playing an influential role at midfield, the Nab went into the attack once more and Kieran Hughes pounced on a piece of opportunist and fired home the Round Towers first three pointer. Carrickcruppen pointed on the 53rd minute that looked to be an insurance point as this now left four between the sides. Two close in converted frees from Jack Grugan and Brendan Toner nearing full time left just two between the sides. With time added on, the Nab launched one final attack and when a high ball sent in was gathered by Jack Grugan on the edge of the square, he side stepped the mass of bodies to fire a shot low to the net to which there was no response. When the final whistle sounded the ecstatic supporters raced to the pitch to congratulate both players and management.

Another all round good team display which has been the backbone of this side all year, inscribed by their dedicated coach John Kelly. Defensively Paudi Crilly was a pillar of strength, admirably assisted by Barry Livingstone while John McManus was once again inspirational and gets this vote for man of the match. The introduction of Brendan Toner gave the Nab a much needed lift and his experience shone through. Attackers Aidan Toner and Kieran Hughes contributed a lot to the game while Jack Grugan popped in with crucial scores including the winner in a forward line that who all got on the score sheet.
