St.Bridgids 0-05 Ballymacnab 2-08
The Under 18’s continued there good start to the year with victory over amalgamated side St.Bridgid’s on Monday evening on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-05. Despite the scoreline the lads did not have everything their own way and were made to work extremely hard but defended admirably in the second. Aodhan Toner got the ‘Nab off to an ideal start with a point from their first attack and followed up shortly with a pointed free. As both sided tried to adapt to the greasy conditions, scores were hard to come by as St.Bridgid’s registered their first score on the 12th minute. Ballymacnab hit back almost immediately and after a slick move saw Conor Murdoch finish off with cool finish for the first goal. St.Bridgid’s responded with a point but that score was cancelled out by another Aodhan Toner free. Ballymacnab were beginning to dominate and when Conor Leonard burst through on a solo run and fired a shot like a rocket from 20 yards to the roof of the net, it gave the ‘Nab a commanding lead. Just before the interval, three unanswered points from Jack Grugan increased his sides lead now to 10. Three quick scores (one for St.Bridgid’s and one each from Jack Grugan and Aodhan Toner) gave the game a lively finish. However, St.Bridgid’s now began to dominate the rest of the half as the ‘Nab struggled to get a grip of any scoring chances but great credit must go to the defence and in particular the superb Shane McCone and the excellent Colm McKee and Oisin Fearon who kept the oppositions chances to a minimum and see out the victory.
