Reserves bow out of Championship (16/05/12)

Ballymacnab 1-05 Maghery 2-11


Our Reserves bowed out of this years Championship when Maghery were the visitors to Pairc na Gael on Wednesday evening. A strong finish in the second half from the Lough shore men saw them progress to the next round on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-05.


Maghery dominated the early exchanges and took a lead with three points. Ballymacnab registered their first score on the 9th minute when Sean Lynch intercepted an attack. Ryan Harvey took on the lead and his long kick pass was broke down by Matthew McCarthy to Niall Gribben who curled over the point. Paul Kennedy followed up with a point before the sides were level on the 18th minute with a pointed free from Gareth Watters. Five minutes later Maghery were awarded a penalty but 'keeper Conor McGivern pulled off an excellent save and pushed the ball around the post. However, from the resulting kick the opposition progressed the ball up the field and into the net. Matthew McCarthy responded with a point but two for Maghery gave them a three point lead at the interval. By this stage the 'Nab had replace the experience Paul Kennedy due to injury.


Maghery stretched their lead with four unanswered points and only another brilliant penalty stop from Conor McGivern gave his side a glimmer of hope. This saved gave Ballymacnab a much needed lift and their efforts were rewarded when Matthew McCarthy finished off an excellent move with a goal. However, Maghery just had little more in attack and saw out the game with another goal.
