Blistering heat was met with a game played at blistering pace when Harps were the visitors to Pairc na Gael for Round 8 of the Senior League on Friday past. After an excellent 60 minutes of open ended football and some quality point scoring it was the visitors who narrowly recorded a 2 point victory.
The game began at a frantic pace with Gavin McParland (2) and Jack Grugan collecting points against as many for the opposition, all within the first 5 minutes. For the next 10 minutes Ballymacnab dominated on the scoreboard and points from Oisin McGivern, Jack Grugan, Ryan Kennedy, Rory Grugan and Jack Grugan left the Round Towers leading by 7 on the 19th minute mark. Harps then hit their purple patch and 5 unanswered point left just 2 between the sides at the interval.
Jack Grugan got the ‘Nab off the mark with an early point from the restart before Harps responded with a point of their own. A brace of points by Gavin McParland left the ‘Nab leading by 4 on the 37th minute. Harps began to grind into the ‘Nab lead and by the 48th minute were level after a converted free. Harps took the lead with a brace of points but a converted free from Jack Grugan on the 54th minute mark reduced the deficit to the minimum. Harps added a point on the 60th minute and as the ‘Nab launched one last attack they were awarded a penalty. Jack Grugan confidently struck the kick but the shot was saved by the ‘keeper with the final whistle soon following.
