SENIOR LEAGUE 1A
MAGHERY 3-10 BALLYMACNAB 0-13
Our Seniors travelled to Maghery on Sunday in the resumption of the league. Three goals for the home side proved to be the difference in the sides as they collected the 2 points.
Ballymacnab were quick off the mark with a Jack Grugan point from the first attack. Maghery quickly levelled matters before a Brian McCone free edged the ‘Nab back in front. On the 5th minute came the first goal when Maghery cut through the ‘Nab rear guard. Maghery followed up with 2 points and a goal from a converted penalty on the 19th minute. Brian McCone exchanged pointed frees with that of the opposition before hard earned points from Ryan Kennedy and Jack Grugan reduced the deficit to 5 by the break. An excellent save from ‘keeper Conor McGivern on the stroke of half time preventing a third goal at that stage.
In the second half Maghery did find the net for a third time on the 32nd minute when their attacker found the ball drop at his feet after an initial strike had it the upright. Two further points for the home side gave them a commanding lead but through the aid of Jack Grugan (3) and Oisín McGivern the ‘Nab rallied to leave 6 between the sides by the 47th minute. Maghery responded with a point before three converted frees from Jack Grugan left 4 between the sides by the 54th minute. However, two late points for Maghery ensured they collected the points.
