SENIOR LEAGUE

DROMINTEE 1-07 BALLYMACNAB 0-12

Our seniors travelled to Dromintee on Sunday for Round 2 of the Senior League and despite a disastrous start the lads turned it around midway through the first half and were worthy winners by two points after 60 minutes of play to record a victory over Dromintee for the first time in many years.

Just after the throw in the weather took a drastic change for the worse with the wind gathering momentum and heavy rain leaving conditions extremely difficult. Dromintee seemed to adapt to the conditions best and raced into a 1-3 to no score lead by the 10th minute. Jack Grugan got the ‘Nab off the mark three minute later with a pointed free. As the weather picked up, so did the Round Towers performances. This was aided by the introduction of substitute Rory Grugan on the 20th minute. Pointed frees in quick succession from Jack Grugan and Brian McCone (2) reduced the deficit. James Gray won a resulting kick out and link play with Rory Grugan set up Gavin McParland for a point. The ‘Nab were now on a role and the sides were level on the 28th minute with a point from Brian McCone, after some good play from Brendan Toner and before the interval Grugan and McParland interlinked once more to set up Joe Gribben with a point to leave Ballymacnab leading 0-07 to 1-03 at the break.

Ballymacnab got off to a perfect start in the second half when Dominic McParland attacked up the left wing and fisted over the bar for a point. Dromintee hit back with two pointed frees and a point from play to give them the lead by the 44th minute. This was shorted lived as Dominic McParland burst forward once more and after collecting an inch perfect pass from Rory Grugan curled over an excellent point. A pointed free for the home side on the 52nd minute edged them in front once more but as in the first half, Ballymacnab finished strongest and with points from Brendan Toner (2) and Gavin McParland securing the two points.

An all round pleasing display from the lads after they got over the initial first 15 minutes with some good performances coming from Ruairí and Brendan Gribben, Dominic McParland, James Gray, Brendan Toner and Rory Grugan.
