SENIOR LEAGUE

ST.PATRICK’S 3-15 BALLYMACNAB 3-06

A disappointing second half performance away to St.Patrick's saw the Seniors defeated at the weekend in the ACL.

Despite the wet conditions the lads made a perfect start when Gareth Watters kicked a point from 30 yards from the first attack of the game. Brian McCone quickly followed up with a point to double the lead and only a point blank save from Sean Hughes denied St.Patrick's a certain goal. They did get off the mark with a 5th minute point. Joe Gribben curled over a point on the 11th minute before a brace from the opposition levelled matters by the 20th minute. Two minutes later came the first goal of the game when Jack Grugan's shot dropped short and with assistance from Joe Gribben saw the 'keeper caught unawares and the ball sail into the back of the net. Straight from the kick out the 'Nab caught the momentum and quickly followed with another goal but this one was deemed illegal and disallowed. St.Patrick's responded with two unanswered points before a point from Jack Grugan kept the 'Nab in front by two on the 31st minute. In time added on Jack Grugan finished off a move with a well taken goal before a point for St.Pat's left four at the break.

In the second half, St.Patrick's turned the game on its head, hitting 1-2 in the first 5 minutes, to go a point up but two points from the boot of the reliable Jack Grugan got the 'Nab refocused once again by the 38th minute were back in front. St.Patrick's now began to dominate around the middle an a converted 45 meter kick levelled matters once more on the 45th minute. A second goal for St.Patrick's two minutes later seemed to dampen the 'Nabs spirits as the opposition kicked on with points to lead by 7 after 54 minutes. Jack Grugan raised his side’s hopes with his third goal after cleverly converting quick free but the opposition responded with another goal and were 9 clear at the full time whistle.

A disappointing result but one the lads can bounce back from and with the short break will give a little more time for seasoned campaigners to return to the fray.
