SENIOR SHIELD BALLYMACNAB 3-10 SARSFIELDS 1-18 Sarsfields were the visitors to Pairc na Gael in our seniors last outing of the season on Sunday. A youthful 'Nab line out put in a good first half performance but a strong second half performance aided by the breeze, saw the opposition record the victory.
Sarsfields were first on the scoreboard with a brace of points in as many minutes before a pointed free from captain Brian McCone got Ballymacnab off the mark. The resulting kick out saw Damian McGeown fetch the ball in the middle and a move involving Brendan Toner, Pauric Gribben and Jack Grugan was finished with Gavin McParland palming the ball to the net. Gavin McParland showed great accuracy when pointing from a side line and an excellent catch in front of goals by Jack Grugan saw him finish with a point to give his side a four point lead. Sarsfields added a point before two well taken points from Brian McCone kept the 'Nab in front. With Tony McKee dominating at midfield, Ballymacnab went on the rampage once more and when Dominic McParland set up Jack Grugan, he finished with a rasping shot to the net. Sarsfields responded with a goal from a dubious penalty. This was followed by a point before a third goal for the men in maroon on the 21st minute. This time the goal finished off by Pauric Gribben. Sarsfields finished with a late rally of points and by the interval Ballymacnab lead 3-06 to 1-08.
