SFC ROUND 2 QUALIFIER

BALLYMACNAB 4-11 WHITECROSS 3-08

Our seniors long awaited Round 2 Qualifier took place on Saturday night and at the final whistle had six points to spare over Whitecross. It was a game Ballymacnab dominated throughout and now shall meet Maghery in the Quarter Final on Sunday 28th in Pearse Og Park @ 2pm.

Ballymacnab showed some suburb forward play in the opening minutes with Gavin McParland hitting 1-1 and a Brian McCone point gave Ballymacnab an early lead before Whitecross hit two pointed frees by the 12th minute. A minute later came a second goal when Pauric Gribben and Gavin McParland assisted Rory Grugan to palm the ball to the net. However, this score was cancelled out immediately when Whitecross raised the green flag with a sweeping move up the field. This did not disrupt the 'Nabs plans and points from Gavin McParland, Rory Grugan, Ryan Kennedy and Pauric Gribben contributed to a 2-8 to 1-3 lead at half time.

Ballymacnabs good fortune continued at the beginning of the second half when Ryan Kennedy collected an excellent pass from Jack Grugan to fire to the net. A fisted point from Gavin McParland quickly followed before Whitecross opened their account for the second half with a point after 35 minutes of play. A minute later Ballymacnab went on the attack once more with a move finished off with a second goal from Ryan Kennedy. To their credit Whitecross regrouped and finished with two goals with 'keeper Sean Hughes making an excellent save to deny a fourth goal.

A good all round team display in which the forwards were in blistering form aided by the heroic efforts of Ruairí Gribben, Fearghal Nugent and Michael Beagan in defence.
