SFC QUARTER FINAL
Ballymacnab 1-10 Annaghmore 1-09
Our Seniors progressed to the last four of the Championship with a nail biting finish against a gallant Annaghmore side who pushed our lads all the way. With the side gridlocked at 1-9 deep in injury time, Rory Grugan produced a wonderful long range point to take our lads to the Semi Final.
The weather conditions were atrocious to say the least, with the raining falling throughout but credit to both teams as they did not let this distract them in what turned out an epic encounter.
Ballymacnab got the first score of the game when Brian McCone set up Jack Grugan for a point on the 3rd minute. Ryan Kennedy followed with a point a minute later before Annaghmore got off the mark with a point on the 5th minute. Gavin McParland kicked an excellent point under pressure on the 13th minute and followed up with the first goal of the game two minutes later when his shot caught the 'keeper unaware and the ball lobbed to the net. However, Annaghmore responded with their own three pointer four minutes later. Another Annaghmore point reduced the deficit to the minimum on the 29th minute and only a good save from the 'keeper denied the resourceful Jack Grugan from grabbing a second goal. Gavin McParland kicked the resulting 45 meter kick over the bar before a point for the opposition just before the break to make it 1-4 to 1-3 at the interval to the men in maroon.
The introduction of Rory Grugan midway through the first half had given the 'Nab a much needed lift and his work rate carved out the first score of the second half when setting up his brother Jack for another point. Ballymacnab were beginning to get into a good rhythm and points from Jack Grugan and Gavin McParland left 4 between the sides by the 43rd minute. Annaghmore regrouped and dominated most of the remaining 15 minutes and turned a four point deficit into a one point lead by the 56th minute, although another save from the 'keeper denied a Ryan Kennedy goal. Damien McGeown kicked an equalising point on the 58th minute but Annaghmore responded with a pointed free almost immediately. With their backs to the wall our lads showed get resolve and never say die attitude which saw Gavin McParland level matters on the 60th minute. With the sides now level again, full time was fast approaching and a replay looking likely but then came the excellent strike from Rory Grugan to curl over the winning score.
Well done to the players and management as we now look forward to the Semi Final draw on Wednesday evening.
