SFC QUARTER FINAL

BALLYMACNAB 1-08 GRANEMORE 0-07

The seniors progressed to the Semi Final of this years Championship with a fully deserving victory over Granemore on Saturday evening at the Athletic Grounds.

In tense opening minutes Ballymacnab had the higher percentage of the play but were guilty of missing some score able chance and it was the opposition who opened the scoring on the 8th minute with a pointed free. Ballymacnab got their first score two minutes later through Tony McKee. Granemore hit two more points before on the 22nd minute Tony McKee’s long punt into the attack saw Brian McCone flick the ball to the on running Rory Grugan and he played a quick one two with his brother Jack , rounding the ‘keeper and fired to the empty net. This gave the lads a much needed lift and the lead which they held on until the final whistle. From this Ballymacnab kicked into gear and points from Brian McCone and Pauric Gribben gave Ballymacnab the advantage at the break, 1-03 to 0-04.

Ballymacnab kicked on in the second half with four unanswered points from Brian McCone, Rory Grugan (2) and Ryan Kennedy and with Tony McKee dominating in the middle they lead 1-07 to 0-04 before Granemore responded with a point on the 48th minute. Ryan Kennedy collected his second score of the day with a 54th minute before two converted frees for Granemore reduced the deficit but by the final whistle Ballymacnab had enough to spare.

This really was a team effort throughout with special praise going to Tony McKee at midfield and Kevin and Michael Beagan in defence. The lads can now look forward to the Semi Final were they have been paired with St.Patrick's to be fixed on the first weekend in October.
