SENIOR LEAGUE

BALLYMACNAB 1-06 KILLEAVY 1-06

Match ball sponsor – Brendy Maguire

Sunday saw the commencement of the Senior League with Killeavy the visitors to a blustery Pairc na Gael. Despite the conditions both sides made a positive attitude to the game.

Ballymacnab got off to an early start with a pointed free from Brian McCone after an interception from Kevin Beagan, setting up an attack. Killeavy, playing with the breeze, levelled the game with a point on the 8th minute. With Ballymacnab's defence being well organised they kept Killeavy scoreless until the 17th minute when they doubled their score. Ballymacnab kept plugging away and their efforts were rewarded on the 21st minute with the first goal of the game. After some initial good play from Gavin McParland he set up Pauric Gribben and although his first attempt was saved by the 'keeper, he followed up the rebound to the back of the net. Killeavy responded with two points to level the game and just before the interval a high ball towards the posts hung in the air before bobbling in the square and finished with the ball falling into the 'Nabs net.  The half time whistle closely followed with the visitors three points ahead.

With the aid of the breeze the boys started the half in buoyant form and on the 35th minute Pauric Gribben flicked over a point after a 45 meter kick from Gavin McParland. Killeavy responded with a pointed free shortly after to keep them edged in front. Jack Grugan was introduced on the 40th minute as a substitute and made an immediate impact when taking a quick side line kick to set up Gavin McParland to slot over a point. Pointed frees from Brian McCone and Jack Grugan left the sides level on the 50th minute. A long range effort from Killeavy saw them hit the lead on the 57th minute but two minutes into added time, like so many times in the past, Brian McCone stepped up and slotted over an equalising point to secure a deserving share of the spoils.

Like all games this weekend the weather played havoc but a draw was a fair result with the 'Nabs best performers on the day coming from Kevin Beagan, Chris Loughran, Ryan Kennedy, Richard and Pauric Gribben.
