Killeavy 2-11 Ballymacnab 2-05

Our Under 21s bowed out of the Championship to Killeavy on Saturday past. Despite a second half revival it was the home side that finished in a flourish to progress to the Semi Final.

Things started disastrously for Ballymacnab when the home side had the ball in the net in under 60 seconds of the game, however, an immediate response came in the form of a Kieran Hughes point. This was to be the 'Nabs solitary point for 23 minutes as Killeavy stretched ahead with a collection of points. Two Rory Grugan frees nearing half time left Ballymacnab trailing 0-3 to 1-5 at the break.

The lads made a positive start to the second half and on the 34th minute found the net. Gareth Watters making an excellent catch under pressure which saw the move finished off with Niall Cosgrove firing the ball to the net. Killeavy responded with two points, in between a point from Jack Grugan from an acute angel to leave three between the sides after 42 minute of play. Led by the performances of Paudi Crilly and John McManus Ballymacnab now had the momentum and a quick free from Kieran Hughes saw Jack Grugan get on to the end of a high ball and flick the ball to the net to level the scores. Killeavy came on the attack straight away and a scramble in the goals resulted in a second green flag for the home side. Rory Grugan hit back with another pointed free on the 47th minute but this proved to be the 'Nabs final score as Killeavy finished the strongest and further points secured their win.
